Free updates are available online
through the QuickBooks Update Service, which can be accessed from
the Online menu of your program. The most recent update to
QuickBooks 5.0 for Windows and QuickBooks Pro 5.0 for Windows is
R7, which is also available as a self-executing update file. Check your current Program
Release of QuickBooks. If you do
have R7, you need to update your program. To update your program using the self-executing
update file, follow this procedure:
Select the appropriate file.
- Exit all open applications, and turn
off all TSRs.
- Find
the update file and double-click it. This will launch the
QuickBooks update utility program. You will then need to verify
the QuickBooks program directory. You can browse to a different
directory if necessary.
QuickBooks
5.0 and QuickBooks Pro 5.0 release 7 (R7) Release Notes contain
specific details concerning this update. Download the QuickBooks Pro 5.0 for Windows User's
Guides (requires the free Adobe
Acrobat Reader).
If you're using the version 5 Timer (in QuickBooks
Pro only), please also download
the version 6 Timer program. From the Online menu, choose
QuickBooks Update Service. If you have not set up your Internet
connection to work with QuickBooks, click Configure, and then
follow the onscreen instructions. In the QuickBooks Update Service
window, click Go Online. The QuickBooks Update Status window
displays and shows you what the Service is downloading and the
estimated percentage of completion. When the download is complete,
save your work in QuickBooks, and then exit the program.
To view a description
of any new updates, select the update in the New Updates section
of the QuickBooks Update Service window, and then click View.
You will be prompted to install
the update. Click Yes. Once the installation has completed,
restart QuickBooks, and then verify that your release
is now R7.
You
must update QuickBooks each time the program is uninstalled and
