An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line: [XX] Error: Automation server can't create object
Possible
Cause:

Important: This article only applies to QuickBooks installed on computers running Microsoft Windows NT.

Note: In this error message, [XX] is a two-digit number that varies with the Navigatoror center you are trying to open.

Possible Cause 1: The Windows file comcat.dll (used to create new Active X objects) is a version other than 4.71, making it incompatible with Windows NT.

Possible Cause 2: The file qbprefs.dll may be missing, damaged, or located in the wrong directory.

Answer:

To resolve this issue:

  1. Search for the file comcat.dll located in the C:\WINNT\system32 folder.
  2. In the Search Results window, right-click the filename andchoose Properties.
  3. Click the Version tab.

  4. Reinstall QuickBooks (this willnot affect your company data file):

    1. Insert the QuickBooks CD into your CD-ROM drive. After a few moments, the installation program will start.
    2. Choose Reinstall QuickBooks.
    3. When prompted, enter your original Installation Key Code. You do not need to re-register.
    4. If you previously installed a QuickBooks update, you should also reinstall the update.

Reinstalling QuickBooks should resolve issues related to a missing, misplaced, or damaged qbprefs.dll file.
