Using QuickBooks with Windows Vista
Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows Vista, is fundamentally different than its predecessor, Windows XP. These differences affect the way Windows Vista works with older software, like QuickBooks 2006 and earlier, making them incompatible at a level that cannot be overcome with a maintenance release. However, QuickBooks 2007 and later versions are built to run on the Windows Vista operating system as well as on Windows XP.)

If you ARE considering using Windows Vista:
  • QuickBooks 2007 and later are the only versions built to run on the Windows Vista operating system. (They also run on Windows XP and Windows 2000.) We strongly recommend that you use QuickBooks 2007 or later and the other QuickBooks products built to run on Windows Vista.
  • QuickBooks 2006 and earlier versions were developed and released before Windows Vista was introduced and will be adversely affected when running on this new operating system. Some features, including QuickBooks Payroll Services, will not work. If you decide to try using QuickBooks 2006 or a prior version on a Windows Vista computer, please see "Using QuickBooks 2006 or earlier with Windows Vista" below for important information. Intuit will not be able to provide live support for issues you may encounter using these versions.
  • Other QuickBooks products, such as QuickBooks Point of Sale and Customer Manager, are also impacted, as are non-QuickBooks payroll services such as QuickPayroll, Complete Payroll with PC Entry, and Premier Payroll with PC Access. These products and services will not work properly on a Windows Vista computer, and Intuit will not be able to provide live support for issues you may encounter.
